Setting up Android email

This tutorial shows you how to setup Android to send and receive email. You can setup Android to send and receive email by doing the following:

Adding a new account.

1. On front screen click Email icon. If you cannot find it, select the Applications icon in the lower right corner and locate it.

2. On the Account setup screen enter your Email Address and Password and press Next.

3. Next screen will give you 3 options, POP3 Account, IMAP Account, or Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync. Most people with a mobile device choose IMAP as it will be able to synchronize to other devices that check the email too.

4. On the next screen, you are required to complete various fields related with your personal data, server and logon information.

Below is a description of the fields:

User Name Enter your full email address, such as: myname@mydomain.com
Password Enter the password you use for this email address.
IMAP Server Standard settings is mail.mydomain.com (Replace mydomain.com with your actual domain).
Security Type This is the type of security the phone uses to connect to the mail server. Unless you require pacific setup we recommend the default setting None.
Port The phone will connect using the default IMAP port 993, for POP3 use port 993.

5. After you have completed the information click Next.

6. Complete the required fields using this information:

Below is a description of the fields:

SMTP Server Standard settings is mail.mydomain.com (Replace mydomain.com with your actual domain).
Security Type This is the type of security the phone uses to connect to the mail server. Unless you require pacific setup we recommend the default setting None.
Port The phone will connect using the default port number 465.

7. Click Next to continue.

8. The Account settings screen will display, change settings or keep default and click Next.

9. On the final screen, you can name this account by entering any name like Bob’s Email. This is used to identify the email account on your Android device, click Next.

Congratulations, you have added your email account to Android device.
